About the Center
The work of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law’s Center on the Global Legal Profession is to focus on the role of lawyers in society, the business of lawyering and the organizational context housing legal practice.
Forces of globalization, politics and the economy create enormous challenges and opportunities for lawyers, clients, policymakers, law schools and the public. We examine these issues through the lens of empirical research, using original and existing data and utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methodology. Center scholars bring to their work a combination of deep expertise in local environments and study of the larger context in which local elements are situated.
In addition to our research, the Center supports a variety of initiatives aimed at facilitating learning about globalization’s influence on lawyers and the legal profession. These include structured conversations among scholars, policymakers, regulators, practitioners, educators, professional and practice organizations and others; classroom learning at Indiana University and in coordination with collaborating law schools and faculties; experiential learning opportunities that capitalize on globalization; and more traditional conferences and symposia.
The Center was launched in August 2009.
